Italian Army Cemetery (Cmentarz Żołnierzy Włoskich)

General

Unit type:

The cemetery is the final resting place for Italian soldiers killed in Poland. It reminds one of Italian military cemeteries.

It was established in 1926 far away from the then-city-limits, today it is in the Bielany district. The cemetery reminds one of Italian military cemeteries, as its design is inspired from traditional Roman ideals and architecture, and its construction was financed by the Italian government. Elements of the altar and the fence, as well as white gravestones, were also imported from Italy. The cemetery is the final resting place for 898 Italian soldiers killed in Poland in World War I and another 1,415 fallen in World War II.
