Church of St. John the Baptist

General

Unit type:

Late-Gothic Church with Renaissance outbuildings built in 1538.

In 1565, a chapel of Eleven Thousand Virgins was erected, founded by Adalbert Kattenberg Kokoszko, perhaps by John the Baptist Venetian. In the 17th century, it was restored on the initiative of father Tomasz Wojtowicz; in 1884-86 another restoration was conducted thanks to the efforts of father Szymon Nowakowski. Interior of the Church is in Baroque and Rococo style. On the side of the Vistula River, three shells are embedded in the wall, fired by the Bolsheviks in the direction of the temple during the war in 1920.
