Unit type:

Gothic Cathedral Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Gorzow dates from the late thirteenth century. It has some Romanesque fragments and it is an example of combining the sacral and defense functions.

It is built of the burnt bricks, as a hall Church, in the gothic style. It has three naves with ribbed vaults and starry (in the sanctuary). On the so-called rood beam there is a group of Passions from the fifteenth century. The renaissance altar dates from the sixteenth century. The light enters the Church through stained glass windows made for the 1000th anniversary of the baptism of Poland. The theme of stained glass windows in the chancel are the seven sacraments.

St. Mary's Cathedral was established on 12th of December 1945 and began to play the role of martyrdom. There are graves of bishops, for example Wilhelm Pluta and Teodor Bensch. The Cathedral’s tower is 52 metres high and was built only in the fifteenth century.
