FEATURES, ORIGINS, VALUES AND LEGAL PROTECTION
The cave was formed due to a tectonic fracture in a limestone massif of the Middle Triassic period and was originally the underground source of the Koscielisko Stream. It contains calcite formations, structures made with lime and numerous other stalactite and stalagmite karst formations.
Its entrance is located at an altitude of around 1112m in the Organow Massif. The tour begins with an artificially formed passage and then goes through the Cmentarzysko Naciekow, Zwaliska, Bialy Chodnik, the Zlomisk Chamber, the Great Chamber, the Sabalowe Lake, the Pochyla Hall and the Wstepna Chamber. This cave is only the final section of the nearby larger Zimna Cavern system discovered in 1934 by Stefan Zwolinski. It was opened to the public on 12th July 1953 and since 1958 has been electrically illuminated. The total length of the passageways is about 571m. Descent to the Koscielisko Valley is by a path with a safety barrier and takes about 15 minutes. Warning, there is a danger of slippery stones. The cave is located in the Tatra National Park.
