Powidz Landscape Park

General

Unit type:

The characteristic trait of this region’s landscape is the system of 17 postglacial lakes, usually narrow, long and deep.

Two of the biggest and relatively cleanest lakes in the Greater Poland are located here, namely Powidz Lake and Skorzęcin Lake. Most of the lakes are connected with a system of water-courses and artificial channels. The park is characterised by a very rich flora: 990 plant species in 216 plant communities, 50 species that are legally protected, 13 impressive trees and tree communities protected in the form of nature monuments. Moreover the area is inhabited by 147 bird species and 34 mammal species. There are also 22 fish species living in the park’s lakes.

The area is also rich in valuable monuments dated back to the Bronze Age and the origins of the Polish state, the Middle Ages, as well as the present day.
