General

Unit type:

The synagogue was probably built in 1633-1634. It is located 300 metres north of the market. This place was the centre of the Jewish quarter. In the vicinity of the synagogue there are two kahal schools, Talmudic house and rabbi apartment.

From the north the synagogue was adjacent to a cemetery used since 1565. The synagogue underwent conversions and changes. Synagogue was built on a rectangular plan with single prayer hall, bipartite atrium on the ground floor and a gallery for women above. The cross vault preserved to this day is from the 19th century remaking after the fire. Its décor is made of stucco. Décor of the walls was in the Rococo style. The current form of the hipped roof and distribution and decoration of the façade also comes from the time of reconstruction after the fire.
