A unique collection of geological exhibits including fossils and skeletal remains of animals which date back millions of years

Established in 1993 it houses one of the most original geological collections in Poland. Gathered here are also valuable mineralogical and paleontological specimens, close to 2500 exhibits, from around the world and one from space – the Gibeon meteorite. The museum mineralogical collections are of great value for research and teaching. There are unique collections of minerals from Karkonosze and the Izerski Mountains, calcites and stalactites from Wojcieszow and mineral ores.

In front of the builing can be found the only „Carboniferous Forest” in Europe. It is made from Dadoxylon wood tree trunks which grew about 300 million years ago. The oldest fossils in the museum are stromatolites from the Kaczawskie Mountains which are 570 million years old and trilobites dating back to the Lower Cambrian period (530 million years ago). A separate part of The museum is dedicated to dinosaur fossils and skeletons – Poland’s largest private collection of these reptiles from millions of years ago.

The museum also has a shop selling a vast collection of jewellery made from various minerals and amber. Items for sale include lamps, clocks, paperweights, ashtrays and many others.
