Eryk Lipiński Museum of Caricature

General

Unit type:

Over 25,000 exhibits included are satirical drawings, cartoons.

The building which houses the Eryk Lipiński Museum of Caricature is a former orangery from the second half of the 18th century, probably designed by J. Ch. Kamsetzer (creator of the interior of the Royal Castle in Warsaw). The collection includes over 25,000 exhibits, of both Polish and foreign artists; included are satirical drawings, cartoons, paintings and sculptures from the 18th century to the present. The creator of the Museum, who then acted as its first director, was satirist and journalist Eryk Lipiński, who for many years collected caricatures and drawings done by different artists, with the aim of launching a specialized museum. Currently the institution not only houses numerous thematic exhibitions, but also acts as a publisher and promoter, organizing many national and international satirical-humorous drawing competitions.
