The first mention of the fortress in Łagów comes from the year 1299. It was located approximately 500 m on the nearby Sokola Góra. In the fourteenth century Łagów became the property of the Order of the Knights of Malta, who built a castle on an isthmus between two lakes: Trześniowskie Lake and Łagowskie Lake. At the end of the fourteenth century there was a Commandry of the Knights of Malta placed on the castle. The multiple rebuilding and renovation obliterated a lot the defensive character of the castle. The tower was raised and topped with new battlements. In 1812, after the Order of the Knights of Malta was disbanded, Łagow was passed into private hands. In the castle, not destroyed during World War II, there is now the hotel and the resteurant.
