Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

General

Unit type:

Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Rotunda) was built between 1800-1803 by Aigner on the model of the Roman Pantheon.

The portico is decorated with eight Corinthian columns (six on the front and one in the back for extreme). The rotunda is covered with dome with painted panels and a large skylight in the centre. It has an internal balcony supported by 12 ionic columns. The marble pulpit and stucco are the work of Frederick Bauman. In the late nineteenth century altar was moved there from the palace chapel, confessionals and pews, and the Italian copy of Raphael's “Madonna” was given by Lucy Rautenstrauchowa. Since 1919 it has been a parish Church.
