Church of St. Jan the Baptist in Sonin

According to tradition, the first wooden Church was built in Sonin in 1469 and this temple served in 1549 up to 1630 as the parish Church for Łańcut, because the then Protestant owners of Łańcuta - Pileccy – who did turn the Church of Łańcut into a Protestant Church.

The present Church was built probably about the middle of seventeenth century (according to tradition even in the sixteenth century). It was restored and rebuilt several times. In the years 1892-1893 there was a major overhaul during which the ceiling was raised enlarged choir and windows, was built a new vesrty and the chapel. Since 1991, after the building of the new Church serves as filial Church. Around the Church remains of earthen walls (so-called peasant fortress) on an irregular plan that uses the natural terrain. The Church is oriented, built in carcass construction, the tower of pole-frame construction.
