Wrocław Toll-Gate

At the crossing of Śródmiejska, Górnośląska, Nowy Świat and Harcerska St., there is a building of the former Wrocław Toll-Gate.

At the beginning of 18 c., at the exit of four main transport routes there were four wooden toll-gates: Warszawska, Wrocławska, Stawiszyńska and Rypinkowska. These were customs posts, where inspected and the so-called toll-gate fees were collected, i.e. fees for entering the city and importing goods. In the first half of 19 c. they were replaced by brick classicist buildings. The only surviving toll-gate was erected in 1822. One can admire the beautiful four-column Doric portico. At present it houses a stylish café.
