Parowozownia (The Round-house)

General

Enhedstype:

The Round-house is the only place in Europe where you can see the old steam locomotives embarked on a tour of the scheduled passenger train.

Wolsztyn roundhouse was established in 1907. The Roundhouse includes eight-posts shed and water cranes used for scooping water for steam locomotives. In front of the roundhouse there is a turntable having an electric and a manual drive from the year 1908. Initially, the diameter of the turntable was 16.08 metres. In December 1949 it was enlarged up to 20 m and in July 2002 it was extended up to 20.5 m - which enables to turn one of the largest steam locomotives of Wolsztyn, the PM 36-2 known as the "Beautiful Helen".

Behind the roundhouse there is still operational, old water tower from 1907 able to accommodate up to 100 m3 of water. Nearby the roundhouse, there are also the repair workshops, coal storage, cleaning channel with a length of 15 m and two old, still operational, coal cranes.
