Golden Forest Hermitage

General

Enhedstype:

17th century post-Camaldolian monastery, the only one in Poland, opened and kept in its original form.

The monastery is located in the middle of a forest, 2 km from the village Rytwiany. It is located away from the traffic routes, it seems to be cut off from the world.

The Baroque Church with post-Camaldolian furnishings (including the choir stalls, a lavabo) deserves particular attention. The decoration of the temple is a wealth of Baroque art: paintings and images by Wenanty of Subiaco, stucco of John the Baptist by Falconi, painting by Charles de Pervot. A remarkable peculiarity is the wax death mask of Anna Dziulanka. The crypts under the Church hold the remains of monks and founders: including the Opalińscy and the Radziwiłł. The monastery abandoned by the monks in the 19th century has been recently rebuilt and open to the public.

Today, the monastery operates relaxing and contemplative Therapeutic Centre SPeS. The centre offers an innovative quality of rest. SPeS was established based on the Camaldolese spirituality which includes: silence, prayer, solitude, in reference to the monastic tradition (Salus Per Silentium - health through silence) - a therapy which cares for the whole person. The combination of spiritual renewal of physical rehabilitation. For those at risk of the harmful effects of civilization, namely: workaholism, webholism, shopaholism, etc.
