Church of St. Anne

General

Enhedstype:

The parish was founded in the 2nd half of the 14th century. Probably it was then that the first Church in Święcany was built. The present Church was built (according to tradition) in 1520. The probable dating of the Church can be moved to the beginning of the 16th century.

In the 2nd half of the 16th century, the Church (walls and ceiling) was decorated with late Renaissance polychromy partially preserved to this day. In the 17th century, the Church was surrounded with arcatures, a free-standing bell tower was erected and new furnishings were provided. In 1863, a chapel of St. John of Nepomuk was added to the north wall of the nave. In the 1870s, the tower was rebuilt and new polychromy was made by Jan Tabiński who painted over the late Renaissance decoration. In the early 20th century, roofing shingles were replaced with metal plates. In the 1960s, the Church underwent a major renovation, and in 1993-1994 there was a comprehensive renovation of the ceiling boards, exposing the late Renaissance polychrome and transferring painted decoration of 1871. The Church is oriented, built in log construction, with a tower of post and beam construction. The Church has a late Gothic portal that leads from the chancel to the vesrty, closed with an ogee arc. There is also original door to the vesrty from the beginning of the 16th century with original fittings.
