The Zielona Góra Philharmonic


General


The Zielona Gora Philharmonic has been giving pleasure of the highest quality for over 50 years already to all those who love classical music.
The main building of Secession architecture was built in 1909, as the parish house of the Evangelical community. After 1945 the building passed into the hands of the Catholic parish, and in 1960 it was adapted to the needs of the Zielona Góra Symphony Orchestra, in 1974 renamed as the Philharmonic. Since 1982 the patron of the Philharmonic has been the Polish composer, Tadeusz Baird. In the new annexe of the complex there are also shops and a restaurant. In 1999 the International East –West Music Centre was established in the Philharmonic, which commenced work on the building of a new concert hall, opened on the 24th of April 2004. Its capacity is for 400 persons. The chamber hall has 200 places. The regular concerts take place every Friday from September till June. In repertoire one can find the oratorios, symphonies as well as popular pieces. The most famous soloists and conductors are the guests of the Philharmonics. It organizes many music festivals such as: Music Days at Odra River, Festival Masters of Polish (Bow) Strings Music. Together with the symphonic concerts (about 100 a year), the Philharmonics is also very active in promoting music among the children and the youth. The orchestra has many recordings (CDs, radio and television) as well as concerts abroad: Belarus, Denmark, Spain, Italy and Germany.
