Skulsk- Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorrows

General

Enhetstyp:

According to word of mouth and the inscriptions of chronicle writers, Our Lady of Sorrows appeared on an island, so called Kępa Skulska, surrounded by swamps and the waters of two lakes: Skulsk and Skulska Wieś which are connected with Gopło lake.

The construction of the present sanctuary ended in 1810. Late Baroque altar with a Rococo decoration, a wooden sculpture situated in a niche, a gothic pieta from a school in Dolny Śląsk. It’s the pieta that attracts pilgrims. The Skulska Pieta was crowned with papal crowns by John Paul II on June 3, 1997.

The late 18th century ambo with a figure of St. Michael in the Skulsk Church is worth a look.

You may get to Skulsk by bus or car: From Włocławek through Piotrków Kujawski, from Konin through Ślesin, from Gniezno through Strzelno, from Inowrocław through Kruszwica.
