Liski Waręskie –The Greek Catholic Orthodox Church complex

General

Enhetstyp:

In Liski we have a chance to visit a complex consisting of Orthodox wooden Church, bell tower and cemetery.

The Church was built in 1872. The transitional forms were used, from the oldest orthodox churches to the churches of nineteenth century. There are three parts of the Church, with the coronary structure with porches all around except the front. Arcades, the nave and chancel are covered with eight-part domes without tambours. The basis of the domes is supported on pendentives placed directly on the corners stroma. This is the original design and the only one seen in such churches in Zamosc area. The interior is decorated with extremely vivid wall paintings from 1875 with figural motifs and architectural preserved iconostasis and two side altars. The nave from the sanctuary and annex was separate with the short passage covering ceilings. Over the passage of women's gallery into the nave there is the choir supported by two pairs of columns. The Domes are topped by apparent lanterns without clearances.
